Established in 2003, the Andre Gist Memorial Foundation is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization dedicated to helping college-bound students meet their expenses for tuition and books.
A 1977 graduate of Oxon Hill High School, Andre Gist was a fun-loving and honorable young man, a dedicated student, and a star on the football field. After excelling as an offensive and defensive lineman in high school and at the University of West Virginia, Andre realized a dream: He became a professional football player, joining the Tampa Bay Bandits during the inaugural season of the United States Football League. Less than a year later, in 1983, he died tragically in an auto accident.
Yet Andre’s winning spirit lives on through the shared memories of his family and friends, and through this scholarship. Two events, a spring black tie evening of entertainment and dining, and a summer golf tournament, are organized each year to raise funds for the scholarship. All support and contributions are greatly appreciated.
The amount of the scholarship award per student for four years is a total of $8,000. All high school seniors who have been accepted to a Historically Black College and University are eligible to apply. To apply for the Andre Gist Memorial Foundation Scholarship, please contact us at:
